Position Description

Pre-Op / PACU Registered Nurse (RN)

Bellevue, WA

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 4x10-hour shifts (Variable start times: 5:30 am for Pre-Op, 7:30 am for PACU)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pre-Op / PACU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic outpatient surgical center specializing in orthopedic procedures. As a key member of the surgical team, you will provide direct patient care before and after surgery, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal recovery. The ideal candidate is flexible, self-motivated, and thrives in a laid-back, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, including reviewing patient history and vital signs.
  • Administer pre-operative medications and prepare patients for surgery.
  • Monitor post-anesthesia patients, assessing vital signs and managing recovery.
  • Apply scoring systems (e.g., Aldrete, PADSS) to determine readiness for transfer.
  • Provide post-operative teaching and support to patients and their families.
  • Implement patient care plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Safely administer medications, adhering to the 8 Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Maintain patient safety, including positioning and thermal protection.
  • Manage wound care and ensure maintenance of fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances.
  • Uphold privacy, dignity, and confidentiality while providing culturally competent care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive care and effective hand-off reports.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred)
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Washington
  • BLS or BCLS certification (within 90 days of employment)
  • ACLS certification (within 90 days of employment)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Pre-Op or PACU settings
  • Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) or outpatient surgical setting preferred
  • Orthopedic experience preferred
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a positive attitude

Contract Length:

1040 Hours. Opportunity to convert to permanent hire after satisfactory completion of contract.
