Position Description

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Med Surg Assistant for a nursing job in Seattle, Washington.

Job Summary:

Drive to and assist the medical and nursing staff with tasks involving extensive patient contact in the patients residence (home, skilled nursing facility, or other care setting). Care includes tasks such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and transferring of patients.



Essential Responsibilities:

  • Participate as a member of the health care team in providing patient care; may take vital signs; may bathe, feed, and dress patients as necessary; may assist in the therapy process such as requiring the patient to sit on the edge of the bed, assisting and encouraging the patient to participate in self-care, perform range of motion exercises, restorative care, etc.; maintain documentation on paper or electronic charts as assigned; assist in the observation of patients symptoms and report changes in patients condition; may assist in the diagnostic procedures of patients; utilize aseptic techniques when necessary; transfer patients to and from the appropriate assistive devices such as a wheelchair or walker; attend and engage with patient care planning and interdisciplinary meetings when assigned.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the patients care environment; changing bed linens, assist in setting up special equipment; clean and maintain equipment; report faulty or damaged equipment to appropriate personnel; order and stock supplies; perform simple laboratory tests such as diabetic tests, stool guiac, obtain C and S specimens; perform related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications: Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year of customer service experience in a health care setting OR experience involving direct patient care.

  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Education
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nursing Assistant (Washington) required at hire OR Nursing Assistant Certificate (Washington) required at hire
  • Driver's License (Washington)
  • Basic Life Support required at hire
